Microsoft Expands Intune Services with “Intune July 2011 release

A new Intune beta service, launched July 11th, offers the ability for administrators to distribute and install third-party software across their systems. The console can also be locked down for read-only access, allowing junior administrators, partners and business analysts to access information without giving them full rights to make changes.

  • With the new software distribution functionality, an administrator can now distribute software packages across the systems that have been subscribed to the service. The distribution is only available for Windows program that have been compiled with the .exe or .msi suffix.

  • Another new features offers the ability to scan a machine for malware and other viruses without manual helop from the user.

This new beta service, named Intune July 2011, will be run separately from the commercial version of Intune.
